Event Details
The annual New Haven Tree Lighting Celebration is the City’s
traditional kick-off to the holiday season.
The 2009 event scheduled for Thursday, December 3* from 4-8pm is held in the heart of downtown on the historic New
Haven Green. The evening celebration brings hundreds of families together for
holiday cheer and is free of charge.
The event is hosted by News Channel 8 and MyTV9’s Gil
Simmons and Desiree Fontaine and will feature live musical performances by
Unity Boys Choir, Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School and Fair Haven School choirs with guest appearances by
Santa, Ronald McDonald and others. Local
service organizations will be on site providing free popcorn and cider. Also on
site are Dunkin Donuts and Cabot Cheese who will provide free samples to
attendees.
From 4-8pm, children will have their choice of free rides- a
carousel, a tug or train. They can also ride “Lucy” the Polar Bear and “Storm
the Reindeer” both life-sized mechanical animals. Meanwhile, guests can hop on a hayride around
the Green – also free of charge. Photo
opportunities are available for children and their families in the midst of a
“winter wonderland” or with Santa until 7:30pm.
